Super Mercado!

Rob Pendleton

Jason Mercado is a man who has grown to embody resilience. He left home when he was 18 years old and lived on the streets for 20 years. Jason became hooked on drugs, spent time in prison, and then went to a recovery facility. When he returned, he enrolled in entrepreneurship classes and decided to open “Just Cookies,” a cookie catering service.

Jason began taking orders over the phone and online. He progressively turned his life around, going on to teach young people about entrepreneurship and business fundamentals. “I have written my own destiny,” he once said.  “I was an addict, homeless, and broke — but I believed in myself, and I knew it was going to work”.

Jason Mercado is a fantastic character. He seems to have appeared out of nowhere as a business hero. He was up against the wall, but he had faith in himself, and he rose to become a great entrepreneur by the sheer force of his will not to be beaten.

Here at Pendleton, we know that life is not always smooth sailing. Having someone to help guide you along the way can shorten the journey.

To show our respect to Mercado’s transformational story, we bring you his top quotes surrounding success and motivation in business.

“Never count yourself out.”

“A cookie is round, and it represents ‘completeness’ — being able to make a complete turnaround, starting over again.”

“I always believed in myself. Every no prepared me for that yes.”

“I created my destiny — against being an addict, against being homeless, against the bank — I stuck with what I believed in and as long as I had that belief in myself, I knew it was going to work.”

“Everything I’ve done, has gotten me where I’m at in my life.”
