This week, the sad news of Bill Gates Senior passing away broke the news. Gates himself wrote an endearing piece on his blog which credited a lot of his success to the way in which his father raised him.
Along with raising one of the sharpest minds that the world has ever seen, Gates Senior was a fantastic businessman starting many successful companies as well as being the driving force behind “The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation” a trust set up to ‘Ensure more children and young people survive and thrive’ attempting to reduce world poverty by improving the health and well-being for those in less economically developed countries.
So, just as Bill Gates, always sought to learn from the father he considered a coach and mentor, here are 5 things we think Bill would want to pass on to the next generation of business owners...
“We make the future sustainable when we invest in the poor, not when we insist on their suffering.”
“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” “It’s fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”
“Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player.”
“This is a fantastic time to be entering the business world because business is going to change more in the next 10 years than it has in the last 50.”
