Why you need to learn from a ‘Nasty Gal’!

Rob Pendleton

Sophia Amoruso was diagnosed with ADHD when she was a child, and as a result, she was removed from the educational system. She found herself with difficult early years, waitressing in restaurants and looking for work anywhere she could. Things became even worse once her parents split; she was left penniless and spent her days travelling, thieving, and stealing to get by.

However, in 2006, Amoruso had had enough. She wanted to get her life back on track and earn a decent living, so she launched Nasty Girl Vintage an eBay store selling a variety of clothing. Even though her progress was slow at first, she did not give up. And over 5 years her earnings skyrocketed to over $23 million.

The tale of Amoruso’s successful enterprise reminds us that life does not always follow the script we are used to or expect. One of the most difficult challenges you may face is being born poor. Even if you’re lost and struggling, and you think the road will never get any better, it’s crucial to keep going. You have to snap out of it at some time and understand that you are the only one who can improve your life.

That’s exactly what Amoruso did. She didn’t let a few unpleasant years define her life. She decided to take matters into her own hands and begin small. She grew and grasped opportunities one by one.

To show our appreciation for Amoruso’s revolutionary work, we bring you her 5 top quotes on success and motivation in life!

“No matter where you are in life, you’ll save a lot of time by not worrying too much about what other people think about you. The earlier in your life that you can learn that, the easier the rest of it will be.”

“The energy you’ll expend focusing on someone else’s life is better spent working on your own. Just be your own idol.”

“There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure.”

“You create the world, blink by blink. It is entirely yours to discover and yours to create.”

“In whatever you do, you’re not going to stand out unless you think big and have ideas that are truly original. That comes from tapping into your own creativity, not obsessing over what everyone else is doing.”
